A FEW WORDS TO THE WISE

Been getting to know my folks lately; it’s never too late ‘til it’s too late. Haven’t watched that many movies these past couple of weeks, but Rango was a fantastic one. Took a while to get accustomed to the looks but after a while, it really didn’t matter. Which reminds me of this: Never judge a gift by its wrapper.

There are sooooo many gifted individuals out there who do not “look the part” but can speak into our lives paradigm shifting words that we miss out on because we can’t see past outward appearances. The outward appearances of age, race, culture, beauty or lack of it.

My favorite quote from the entire flick was “No man can walk out on his own story.” Don’t we all wish we could sometimes? I know I do. And it got me thinking. Although it’s true, that no man can walk out of his own story, I believe that if you are very well acquainted with the AUTHOR, you can ask for the story to be changed =) that’s a yaysome thought!

So I decided to listen to that sunscreen song again. Dude had some wisdom. Looking at how what he said fifteen years ago is still very relevant today, it never ceases to wow me. If this is what is termed “the wisdom of this world” and is “foolishness to the Almighty” can you imagine how vast The Creator’s wisdom is???? Whoa.

My favorite lines from the speech are: “Sometimes you’re ahead, and sometimes you’re behind. The race is long, and in the end, it’s only with yourself.” “Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; Oh, never mind, you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.

But trust me, in 20 years, you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked….you are not as fat as you imagine.” =)

“Get to know your parents; you’ll never know when they’ll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings, they’re the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future. Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few, you should hold on.”

“Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do, you’ll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders. Respect your elders.” “Don’t expect anyone to support you. Maybe you’ll have a trust fund, maybe you’ll have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one may run out.”

Sometimes the race gets really really really really hard, but you can’t win it if you’re not in it. But we have to keep on moving forward, because even when you are on the right track, you can get run over if you stop moving. So crawl, skip, hop, run, walk, but keep on moving forward!
